Sunday, June 23rd 2002 - Prayer of the Week on John 17:1-13.
On Bended Knee, Let us Pray to the Lord. Lord have Mercy.
O Master of all, God our Savior, the hope of all the ends of the earth
and of those that are far off upon the sea, Who on this last and great and saving day of
Pentecost, showed forth to us the mystery of the Holy Trinity, and poured out the descent
and presence of Your holy and life-creating Spirit in the form of tongues of fire, upon
Your holy Apostles, appointing them to be the Evangelists of our pious faith, and showing
them to be confessors and preachers of the true theology; Who also on this all-perfect and
saving feast, deigned to receive oblations and supplications for those bound in Hell, and
grant to us the great hope that You will send down to the departed relief and comfort from
the grief that binds them. Hear us, Your humble and piteous ones who pray, and give rest
to the souls of Your servants who have fallen asleep before us, in a place of light, in a
place of refreshment, in a place of repose, where all sickness, sorrow, and sighing are
fled away; and place their souls in the tabernacles of the righteous, and make them worthy
of peace and repose. For the dead do not praise You, neither do those in Hell dare to
offer You confession, but we, the living, bless You, and supplicate You, and offer them
propitiatory prayers and sacrifices for their souls. Amen.
Tues, June 18th 2002 - Prayer of the Week on John 17:1-13.
Let us Pray to the Lord. Lord have Mercy.
O Lord before You ascended to Your Father You prayed for us as Your
family. You want us to have the same love for each other as you have with Your father. You
warned us to be on guard against false messiahs. We pray that You will open our spiritual
eyes so that we can discern Your will as we proclaim Your Gospel. Guide us in our personal
ministries so that we may be found working in Your vineyard and be praising Your Holy name
when You return. We pray in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.
Monday, June 10th, 2002 -Prayer of the Week on John 1-38 - The Healing of the blind man.
Let us Pray to the Lord. Lord have Mercy.
Illumine our hearts, O Master, Lover of mankind, with the pure light of
Your divine knowledge. Open the eyes of our mind to the understanding of Your gospel
teachings. Instill also in us the fear of Your blessed commandments, that trampling all
carnal desires, we may enter upon a spiritual manner of living, both thinking and doing
such things that are well-pleasing to You, for You are the illumination of our souls and
bodies, O Christ our God, and to You we ascribe glory, together with Your Father, Who is
without beginning, and Your all-holy, good, and life-creating Spirit, now and ever and
unto ages of ages. (from the Divine Liturgy)
Wednesday, June 5th, 2002 - Prayer of the Week on John 4: 6-14.
Let us Pray to the Lord. Lord have Mercy.
O Lord when we were baptized in Your living water we prayed that we
would keep our baptismal garment clean. We have become like the Samaritan woman by taking
our part in this sinful and adulterous generation. We have lusted after the physical
pleasures of this life at the expense of building treasures in heaven. As You called the
sinful woman to repentance, You are calling us to trade in our old life to be renewed in
the spirit. Help us to give up our adulterous ways and follow Your teachings so that Your
living water will spring up in us leading us into eternal life. We pray in the name of the
Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.
