Let us Pray to the Lord. Lord have Mercy.
O Lord You are the builder and we are Your fellow workers. As we build
Your temple with You as the corner stone, may it be made of precious stones, gold and
silver. We pray for Your protection when we are tempted with despair over our trials. May
the treasure we used in the building shield us against the river of fire so we can cross it
shining brightly and enter Your kingdom receiving the rewards for our labors. We pray in
the name of the Father Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.
Tuesday, August 20th, 2002 - Prayer of the week for the feast of the Dormition
Let us Pray to the Lord. Lord have Mercy.
Since you fulfilled your great mission with complete obedience and
humility, you have become a prayerful inspiration to all the faithful. In you, we see
the fulfillment of all Christ's promises to our human race. In your birth-giving, we
see that Christ will truly abide in us. In your ever-virginity, we see the victory over
the passions which Christ has made possible. In your falling asleep, we see the
certainty of Christ's victory over death, and the sure proof of the resurrection of
all mankind.
In our weakness and sinfulness, O Virgin, the enemy often tempts us
to doubt or to become careless in our spiritual life. Often we are led into spiritual
delusions and temptations. When we call on you in prayer however, we once more see the
proof of Christ's words, and the truth is made clear to us once more. Your very life,
your example and your presence are a protection against the deceits of Satan. And
therefore we cry out to you…"O Theotokos, Save us."
Monday, August 12th, 2002 - Prayer of the week from the Transfiguration of Our Lord Matt. 17:1-9
Let us Pray to the Lord. Lord have Mercy.
O Lord You are our Savior and Teacher. By revealing Your glory to Your Apostles You
taught us that You are truly the Son of God and equal in glory to Your Father and the Holy Spirit.
Moses and Elijah heard the word of Your Father announcing that You are his beloved Son. May we in a
small way experience Your Glory so that we can bear the fruits of the Spirit and have the same joy and
peace that Your apostles had when they experienced Your divine brilliance. Prune away from us all bad
habits and unkind behavior so that when we enter the New Jerusalem we will also radiate Your Glory. We
pray in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit Amen.
Monday, August 5th, 2002 - Prayer of the week from a children's sermon on being prepared
Let us Pray to the Lord. Lord have Mercy.
O Lord You warn us to always be prepared to go to heaven because we never know when
You will come to invite us to go. When we get ready to go the church on Sunday help us to remember
that this is a practice for our trip to heaven. Never let us forget anything and so that we will be
allowed in. We pray in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.
