Job Description

Readers and chanters are ordained to the first order of the priesthood by the Bishop and assigned to as liturgical assistants to the Priest. During hierarctical Liturgies they serve as subdeacons. They are expected to know the order of all services and be able to locate in church books all required verses and hymns. ( Troparia and Kontakia ) They are to continually nurture their reading ability by reading the scriptures and learning the chanting tones. They supervise and assign readings to unordained readers and monitor their chanting progress.
