St. Luke Choir

Choir Director, Maria Vrame.

Name: Maria Vrame
Job: Ministry of Music Director
Email: GeoMarVrame@aol.com

As a child, not understanding what was truly happening in the Liturgy, the beautiful music filled my soul and I felt the presence of God. Now as the director of music at St. Luke, and knowing what is happening in Church, I try through the singing to impart that beautiful feeling as we all experience the services. I truly believe when it is said: That to sing praises to God is to pray twice.

Job Description

Coordinates with Rector the music that is to be sung for all services and follows his instructions on liturgical order and procedures. Provides appropriate music during services. Provides for a substitute choir leader when absent. Organizes music books and acquires supplies as needed. Oversees maintenance and cleaning of choir loft and report needs to Council. Maintains choir membership adding new members as needed. Holds choir rehearsals in order to provide reasonable quality of music during services. Informs Council of musical events occurring within the Diocese. Provides music support for ministry teams such as Education, Evangelism and Community development.

Current News and Events

St. Luke choir is presently preparing to sing in the Lemont Historical Society Choir Festival on December 8. We are the only Orthodox church making a presentation. As in the past we will be singing selections from our Nativity Vigil and Liturgy along with a few selective hymns from the church calendar such as the Pre-feast Kontakion, The Virgin goes Forth, Christ is Born (Byzantine First Ode), Awed by the Beauty (from the Akathist Hymn), Simeon's Prayer (Archangelsky). We will also sing a selection of Ukrainian Christmas Carols in English.

This is the third year that we've been asked to participate in this festival. It affords us an opportunity to witness the Orthodox Faith with our hymns. The Historical Society of Lemont feels we present a different and unique presentation to their program and look forward to our presentation.
