Missionary Sendoff
By Dr. Spero Kinnas

Mission Team Chicago, the regional representatives of the Orthodox Christian Mission Center (St. Augustine, Fl.), held their 10th annual missionary sendoff on Friday, May 14th for the Orthodox missionaries going abroad following the great commission of our Lord "Go forth and make disciples of all nations."

The event was held at St Luke and his Eminence Archbishop Job was in attendance to bless the missionaries from the Chicagoland area. It was especially meaningful to meet at St. Luke's as their parish priest, Fr. Wayne Harrison and his presvytera Patricia, will be missionaries in India this summer.

Other missionaries include:

John and Carrie Colis (Alaska).
Dianna Dokos (Romania)
Alexandria Laris (Tanzania)
Katherine Parhas (Guatemala)
Michael and Helen Young (Guatemala)
Suzanne Stappas (Brazil)

The event was attended by approximately 50 people, which included past and present missionaries, friends of missions and individuals who are considering future missionary activity.

Following the blessing was a delicious potluck dinner. A spirited interactive session followed with an auction of items from the field by past missionaries. The $700 raised from the auction was used to defray the expenses incurred by this year's missionaries.

The event concluded with a closing prayer by Fr. Harrison.
